On September 22, 1931, The House of David, led by pitcher/manager Grover Cleveland Alexander lost to the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 17-6, in the first-ever night game in Sportsman's Park. By utilizing the portable lighting system, the House of David was able to draw over nine thousand fans for the night exhibition. In contrast to the game played that afternoon, the Cardinals played the Reds drawing only 450 fans.
