    THE CAMERA NEVER LIES

In late August 1909, Connie Mack brought his Philadelphia Athletics into town, trying to catch the league-leading Tigers. Here Ty Cobb slides hard into third base, spiking Frank Baker on the arm. The Athletics claimed that it was intentional and Ban Johnson considered a lifetime suspension for Cobb until Detroit News photographer Bill Kuenzel presented this photograph, which proved otheriwse. Cobb slid away from Baker, who is out of the base path.
