    THE FIRST FALL CLASSIC, 1903

The gate at the Huntington Avenue Grounds in Boston is crowded with "Royal Rooters" as the Americans prepare to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series. A best-of-nine post season series was planned to settle the world's baseball championship. The series opened in Boston on October 1st with a Pirates victory over Cy Young. The teams split the next two before heading to Pittsburgh.
