Buddy Hassett

by Gregg Scott (Pensacola, FL)

The first time I saw Buddy Hassett was in the 1942 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. I saw the last three games and the main reason I went to the series was because the Cardinals had a young left handed pitcher, Ernie White. We were from the same little town of Pacolet, SC. He shut the Yankees out two to nothing in the game he pitched. He hit Buddy Hassett on his hand and broke it. I had no idea that I would be playing in Norfolk of the Piedmont League five years later, where Buddy Hassett was my manager
