Jeff Darwin Remembered
Free Beer If You Win!
by Christian P. Schweiger (Winchester, VA)

Jeff Darwin was a leader of the 1992 Pilots (Carolina League) fun loving and a great pitcher. We all knew his brother had made it to the big leagues and were happy to see Jeff move up. His wife worked at the local steak house my brother ran and we used to feed the team steaks whenever we could. The deal we had with Marc Hill the manager was, if the team won they could have any leftover beer from the kegs. It worked because the Pilots won the Carolina league championship that year. Jeff along with teammates John Cummings, Greg Bicknell, Darren Bragg and 18 year old Desi Relaford had a magical year and skipper Marc Hill assisted by Paul Limblad and Tommy Cruz was named Minor League Manager of the year. Best Wishes to Jeff Darwin on achieving your dream!
