A Granddaughter's Pride

by Eileen Ross

My grandfather was Jack Doscher. He played for the 1903 Chicago Cubs and then went to Brooklyn. I believe the final year he played was 1906. My great-grandfather was Herm Doscher who I believed played in the 1880s.

I unfortunately never got to see my grandfather play baseball. I remember the days I spent listening to him speak of the love of the game. His chest would swell with pride when he would attend the old timers game each year and I remember fondly watching him being introduced as the oldest living Dodger. My prized possession today is the picture of him that I have in his uniform. He never made a salary like the players today but for him it truly was the love of the game.
