On August 22, 2000, Brent Mayne (COL-N) became the first catcher (regular position) with a pitching win since Roger Bresnahan logged four victories in 1897 (WAS-N). The last major league position player to get a win was Rocky Colavito in 1968. Mayne's victory now brings the Catchers' Pitching Victories total to 10. Buck Ewing had two in 1889. Sleeper Sullivan (1884), Eddie Fusselback (1882) and Amos Booth (1877) each had one. The record holders for catcher's pitching accomplishments are:
» Amos Booth - Most Innings Pitched Career (95.2 in 15 games)
» Amos Booth - Most Innings Pitched Season (86.0 in 12 games in 1877)
»Charlie Moran - Most Innings Pitched 1901-2000 (24.0 in 1903 in 3 games)
»Jim Keenan - Lowest Career ERA (2.37 in 19.0 IP)
» Amos Booth - Most Batters Faced Career (449)
» Buck Ewing - Most Strikeouts Career (23 in 47.0 IP)
Unfortunately none of the four catchers who caught and pitched in the SAME game (Frank Bowerman, Roger Bresnahan, Rick Cerone [twice] and Rick Dempsey) had a win. That would have been a real "Complete Battery."
