Charles Johnson (FLA-N) caught his third career no hitter on Saturday night, May 12, 2001, (tossed by A.J. Burnett in a 3-0 win over SD-N). Johnson became the 15th catcher since 1875 to accomplish this feat. Ray Schalk holds the record with four no-hitters caught. Johnson's third no hitter, all with Florida, is the first since Alan Ashby caught his 3rd in 1986 while with HOU-N. Johnson's other two no hitters caught were with Al Leiter in 1996 and Kevin Brown in 1997. The complete list of no hitters caught (all 266 of them) is available on my web site under the RECORDS Section. The list of the 15 catchers with three no hitters caught and the date of their third are:

» 1884 Silver Flint
» 1905 Ed McFarland
» 1910 Lou Criger
» 1916 Bill Carrigan
» 1922 Ray Schalk (his 4th)
» 1923 Val Picinich
