Choo Choo Coleman

by S. Robinson (Thunderhead, OK)

Choo Choo Coleman was considered a "good low ball" catcher by Casey Stengel, his manager with the Mets. Perhaps his greatest claim too fame was his interview on "Kiner's Korner," the post-game show hosted by Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner. Kiner attempted to interview "Choo Choo" after a rare Mets victory. Kiner asked Coleman, "Choo Choo -- that's a unique nickname for a ball player. What do they call your wife?" Coleman responded, "Mrs. Coleman!"

» S. Robinson was named by his father, an ardent Mets fan, after former Mets coach Sheriff Robinson.
