Dave McNally

by E W Peterson

I suspect Dave McNally wasn't as talented as, say, Nolan Ryan or Bert Blyleven, but he got more out of his talent, and except for obvious Hall-of-Famers (Tom Seaver, Jim Palmer, Gaylord Perry, and maybe Fergie Jenkins) I can't think of a pitcher from that era (68-71) I'd rather have. He might never have suceeded on mediocre or bad teams, but he sure was valuable to a great one. You might not remember too many of his games, but look at the numbers. For a short period, he was as good as most Hall-of-Famers.
