Reggie Ritter was signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Indians on August 12, 1982 after graduating from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. Reggie's major-league callup came on May 16, 1986. He also spent over half of the 1987 season with the Indians.
On August 7, 1987, Reggie was pitching against the Toronto Blue Jays and at bat was Juan Beniquez. Juan hit a solid line drive which struck Reggie squarely on the jaw and broke it in three places. Effectively this ended Reggie's major-league career.
