One of the nicer ballplayers in the game - and one of the more sensitive ones. I recall after the Yankees beat the Royals in the playoffs in 1976, Freddie was inconsolable in the dugout after the game. He sat there sobbing for what seemed like 15 minutes. The times I met him around the game, he was always a gentleman. Kids related to him because of his diminutive stature. But he played tough and had to be tough to make it in a game played by bigger, stronger men.
