A Young Todd Greene

by John Munford (Fayetteville, GA)

I met Todd Greene at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, where he and teammate Mike Miller combined for some prodigious power.

As the school paper's sports editor, I got to interview and chat with Greene several times and he's a real down-to-earth nice guy.

And what an arm he had! He threw laser beams from right field, his position at the time, to third base with no trouble and a ton of accuracy.

His hitting was what got him to the bigs. At Georgia Southern's field, there was a nursing building behind right field and we were continuously entertained with various Greene shots that bounced onto and off of the roof.

I'm happy he's in the national league because now I'll get to see him play in Atlanta. He did get an at-bat or two last year in ATL when the Rangers came to town.

If you ever get the chance to meet him, you'll be struck by how nice he is. Could be that southern gentleman upbringing.
