by Mike (Cincinnati )

It is ironic that Don Blasingame's game was built upon his hustle. In 1963, he lost his 2nd base job on the Reds to the rookie Charlie Hustle, A.K.A. Pete Rose. Not all of the Reds' veterans were happy to see their buddy Blasingame lose his job. In fact, Rose would say that Frank Robinson and Vada Pinson were two of his very few supporters. They, as blacks, knew what it was like to be ostracized by their own teammates.

» Mike is a life-long Reds fan.
