Ernie Oravetz, an unforgettable little Nat rookie listed at 5'4" and 145 lbs., became baseball's smallest player in 1955 when he joined the talent-starved Senators. Perhaps more amazing than his diminutive stature was the fact that he'd never been in the majors and hadn't even played professional baseball for two years -- having served in the military in 1953 and 1954!
He realized the impossible dream of reaching The Bigs and surviving for two two years before ordinary skills and lack of power ended this true-life baseball Cinderella story.
