Kelly Gruber's Rookie Card

by Ian Kent (Cranbrook, BC)

I loved Kelly Gruber so much that I went out and not only bought his biography but I went out and baught to rookie cards of him. One a top prospect card (with him in a cleveland uniform if you can believe it) and one with him in a jays uniform. the prospects card was 11 bucks and the other one was seven. I hoped they would raise in value but his fall from grace did not help much. It was sad to see him traded for I never booed him. He was a good player. But when I traded my rookie cards away i think I knew, instinctively, he would just slide out of existence. he did. Never regaining his full glory. I felt my childhood fall away when I traded them, though I think I got a good deal: the Michael Jordan baseball card.
