Mike Sharperson

by Jay B.

Mike Sharperson will always be remembered as one of my favorite players. Though I am only 16, the way I found out about Shaperson is quite an interesting story.

In an old 1993 video game, the names were not the real players' names. My favorite team was the Dodgers and I put in my favorite back up infielder to play 3rd base for me. I hit a dozen home runs with this guy in 26 games, and a walk off home run in the World Series, but who was this guy? Later I found out it was indeed Sharperson and the 12 home runs were more then his entire career!

I looked around to see if I could gather any more information about him, and I realized what a great person he was. Sharperson played the game with heart and determination, not for money. If every team had 25 Mike Sharpersons, there would be no labor problems, there would be no strikes, and baseball would still be the greatest game ever. I will always remember him for his great contributions to the game, even if it was short-lived, and he will always be one of my favorite players.
