Jerry Narron in 1979

by Errol Toulon, Jr. (Bronx, NY)

During the 1979 and 1980 baseball seasons I was a batboy for the New York Yankees. During the 1979 period I grew especially close to Jerry Narron. He was a unique and different person compared to the other players in the clubhouse. He was very quiet but always had an ear for this kid from the Bronx. He would always give me his tickets for my parents.

While most players were so wrapped in their own little world, Jerry would notice things during ballgames I never heard any other player talk about. The phrase wasn't developed back then but I think Jerry Narron beat Tim McCarver when he discusses "the game within a game".

Good Luck, Jerry!
