Bernice Gera
First Lady Umpire

Born on June 15, 1931 in Ernest, Pennsylvania, Bernice Gera first began her career in 1967 at the Florida Baseball Umpire School in West Palm Beach, Florida. She umpired the National Baseball Congress Tournemant in Wichita, Kansas. From 1968 through 1971, she umpired games in the Bridgeton, NJ semi-pro invitational, the YMCA industrial league, the New York City Police Department Bluecoats, and the Catholic Youth Organization. Her first and only professional game was in 1972 for the NY/Penn Professional Baseball League, Class A, in Geneva, NY.
