Ted Bowsfield

by George Bowering (Oliver, BC)

When I was playing for the Oliver Juniors and Ted Bowsfield was playing for the Penticton Juniors, he scared the hell out of me, for three reasons: he was so damned big, he could throw so damned hard, and he was wild as hell. My first time up against him I lucked a single with the bases loaded. After that I spent a lot of time on the seat of my pants, near the hitter's box.

» George Bowering is author of Baseball: a poem in the magic Number Nine. Toronto, Coach House Press, 2003.
