Sam Langford
by Danny Andrews (Plainview, TX)
Editor of the Plainview Daily Herald, I wrote Sam Langford's obituary one Saturday night after getting a note on the obit that said he threw our four runners at FIRST BASE in one game. Intrigued, I called the Elias Sports Bureau, which had him with 4 assists in a game, the last American Leaguer to do it, in 1928. The Cleveland Plain Dealer librarian sent me the game account, which had four asssits in the box but only mentioned three in the game account for some reason. I was glad to see your website acknowledge that since I have throught about it many times. Sam was manager of the cotton compress here, very involved in American Legion Baseball and the Plainview Ponies minor league team in Plainview from 1953-61.
