1974 WORLD SERIES
Q: Who won the World Series in 1974?

A: Alvin Dark's Oakland Athletics overcame turbulence in the clubhouse -- pitchers Rollie Fingers and Blue Moon Odom slugged it out before Game One -- to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, four games to one. It was Oakland's third straight championship and the first All-California World Series in baseball history. A's second baseman Dick Green was the MVP.

OPENING DAY, 1984
Q: I'm looking for the Opening Day lineup for the 1984 Detroit Tigers. My dad, brother, and I have thought of 8 out of 10, and can't figure out the other 2. Can you help?

A: The Detroit Tigers opened the 1984 season on April 3 -- defeating the Minnesota Twins, 8-1, at Tiger Stadium. Here is Sparky Anderson's starting lineup that day:

ED YOST ON THE TIGERS
Q: Did Eddie Yost ever play for the Detroit Tigers? If so what years and for how long?

A: Acquired from Washington along with Rocky Bridges and Neil Chrisley for Reno Bertoia, Ron Samford, and Jim Delsing on December 6, 1958, Yost played third base for the Tigers from 1959-1960. He left Detroit when he was selected in the expansion draft by the Los Angeles (now Anaheim) Angels in December 1960.

PHILLY FIRST SACKERS
Q: Who played first base for the Philidelphia Phillies in the 1994/1995 season?

A: John Kruk and Ricky Jordan were the Phils' primary first basemen before the strike hit in '94. Dave Hollins and Gregg Jefferies took over in '95, but Hollins was traded to Boston in July for Mark Whiten.
