THE SCOOTER | Phil Rizzuto, a product of Brooklyn's sandlots, played a nearly flawless shortstop for 10 pennant winners in New York between 1941 and 1956, then switched to an equally memorable career in broadcasting. His best offensive year was 1950, when he batted .324 and was voted Most Valuable Player. "My best pitch is anything the batter grounds, lines, or pops in the direction of Rizzuto," claimed pitcher Vic Raschi.
