Dizzy and Daffy Dean had every reason to be smiling and waving their caps in the air in this original news service photo taken on September 30, 1934. According to the caption tag on the reverse, Dizzy had just won his 30th game of the regular season, bringing the total number of victories between him and his brother Paul to 49. At the start of the season, Dizzy had predicted that they would win between 45 and 50 games. The Cardinals were also en route to meet the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.
