THE SPLIT | After the death of Benjamin Purnell, the colony split into two factions on February 25, 1929. One was led by Mary Purnell, and the other by Judge H.T. Dewhirst. Each faction fielded a team, and claimed to be the "true" House of David team. Francis Thorpe sided with Mary Purnell, and the famed Pepper Team went with Thorpe. From left to right, they are: Jesse Lee "Doc" Tally, George "Andy" Anderson, Francis Thorpe, and John Tucker.
