JOHN McGRAW IN 1912 | John J. McGraw managed the Giants from 1902 to 1932. Two-fisted, acid-tongued, and roundly reviled, McGraw "was wise enough to realize that hate is as strong an attraction as love," observed one sportswriter. Such hate made the Giants as big a draw on the road as at home. "His very walk across the field in a hostile town is a challenge to the multitudes," wrote Grantland Rice.
