WAY TO GO, SID! | The Giants were always on the lookout for a Jewish star to take advantage of New York's large Jewish population. The closest they came was Sid Gordon, a power-hitting outfielder-third baseman who spent most of the 1940s at the Polo Grounds. Here Gordon, a Brooklyn native, enjoys a "day" at Ebbets Field in 1948. Among his gifts were a new car, golf clubs, and a set of luggage. The last item came in handy when Gordon was traded to Boston the following year.
