DEAN CARRIED OFF | Cardinal pitching stalwart Dizzy Dean is carried from the field after being hit in the head by a ball, October 6, 1934. In game four of the World Series, Dean was sent in as a pinch runner. On a double-play grounder, he failed to slide into second and was struck in the head by the throw back to first. Catcher Mickey Cochrane, Marv Owen (#8), and the public address announcer can be seen in the foreground.
