THREE SUPERSTARS | Cecil Travis, Dizzy Dean, and Satchel Paige pose for a publicity shot at a 1942 war-charities game. Travis was an outstanding shortstop and third baseman for the Washington Senators. A year before this shot was taken Travis had spent 10 months in Belgium and Germany, during the Battle of the Bulge, where he suffered frostbitten feet. His baseball career never reclaimed its greatness, and has hurt his chances for Hall of Fame induction. (Courtesy of NoirTech Research, Inc.)
