TURKEY STEARNES | The greatest black baseball player in Detroit baseball history, Norman "Turkey" Stearnes, takes his last turn at bat. Late in his life and not long before his death in 1979, Stearnes visited Tiger Stadium, where he plied his trade with the Stars. After his retirement from baseball, Stearnes was a regular at Detroit Tigers games, where he preferred to sit with the bleacher bums. Number eight was truly great.
