SAM JONES | "Toothpick" Sam Jones, with toothpick on the job, hurled for the Homestead Grays and Cleveland Buckeyes in the late 1940s before joining organized baseball in 1950. He earned a spot with the Detroit Tigers in 1962 at the age of 37. That season Jones appeared in 30 games, winning two and losing four with 73 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.65.
