LARRY DOBY | Larry Doby broke the American League color barrier on July 4, 1947, with the Cleveland Indians. He was the first black player to lead the league in home runs and RBIs. Doby spent the majority of his career in Cleveland, but joined the Detroit Tigers for 19 games in 1959, at the age of 36. The former Newark Eagle sensation was selected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998.
