BANKS & PAIGE | Former Kansas City Monarch Ernie Banks listens to the wise and prophetic Satchel Paige. In 1948 Paige, for the St. Louis Browns, became the first black pitcher to throw a nine-inning shutout in the American League. Ageless at 42, Paige shut out the Chicago White Sox 5-0 before a sellout crowd of 51,013 at Comiskey Park.
