PEPPER MARTIN | Pepper Martin played the game with abandon, hence his nickname “The Wild Hoss of the Osage.” He hustled in the field, and he ran the bases like a madman. Martin had a career .298 average and batted .418 in three World Series. He was a perfect fit on the St. Louis Cardinals’ “Gashouse Gang.”
