Bug #22   found in Tippy Martinez
URL: /ballplayers/M/Martinez_Tippy.stm
Fixed: July 18, 2002
Reported by: Dvd Avins (dvdavins@pobox.com)
Reported error: More an oversight than an error. You mention the 10-player deal in which Martinez was sent to the O's. In explaining that deal, you mention 8 of the 10 players. Leaving out Jimmie Freeman is unimportant, but leaving out Paul Blair, who went to the Yankees in the deal, seems like a mistake.
Original text: "Martinez reached the ML with the Yankees in 1974, then was traded to the Orioles on June 15, 1976 in a 10-player deal that sent Rudy May, Scott McGregor, and Rick Dempsey to Baltimore in exchange for Ken Holtzman, Doyle Alexander, Grant Jackson, and Elrod Hendricks."
Action taken: References to Jimmy Freeman and Dave Pagan added.
Comment:
[James G. Robinson]
You're right that two players were omitted, but they weren't the two players you mentioned. True, Freeman went to the Yankees, but Dave Pagan was sent to Baltimore as the tenth player in the deal. Blair didn't become a Yankee until January 20, 1977, when the Orioles sent him to New York in exchange for Elliott Maddox and Rick Bladt.
Revised text: "Martinez reached the majors with the Yankees in 1974, then was traded to the Orioles on June 15, 1976 in a ten-player deal that sent Rudy May, Scott McGregor, Rick Dempsey, and Dave Pagan to Baltimore in exchange for Ken Holtzman, Doyle Alexander, Grant Jackson, Elrod Hendricks, and Jimmy Freeman.
