FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» March 14, 1954: Henry Aaron starts his first game with the Braves, getting three hits in a spring training game against the Boston Red Sox. One of the blows is a home run, off Ike Delock, that goes over a row of trailers along the outfield fence.

» July 20, 1958: Jim Bunning of the Tigers pitches a 3-0 no-hitter over the Red Sox and fans 12. Only two walks and a hit batsman mar Bunning's performance as he wins his sixth game in seven decisions (8-6). In game two, Ike Delock wins his 10th straight, 5-2.

» September 21, 1958: At Fenway Park, the Red Sox complete a three game sweep of the Senators, all by 2–0 shut outs. The Boston winning pitchers were Tom Brewer, Frank Sullivan and Ike Delock. Today's win was marred when Ted Williams, in a fit of anger, flings his bat into the stands striking Joe Cronin's housekeeper, Gladys Heffernan, in the face. She is not badly hurt, and Williams is very apologetic. But American League President Will Harridge will fine Williams for a bat-throwing incident

» July 22, 1960: At Fenway the Red Sox down the Indians 6–4. Vic Wertz has a 3-run homer and four RBIs. Ted Williams also homers and, in the 7th inning, steals 2B. Williams sets a major-league record as the only player to steal bases in four consecutive decades: he'll be match by Rickey Henderson in 2000. Jimmy Piersall homers twice, both off winner Ike Delock.

» May 29, 1961: At Fenway, Ike Delock outduels Whitey Ford to beat the Yankees, 2–1. New York's scoring is Mickey Mantle's first homer in two weeks.

» August 11, 1962: At Fenway, the Red Sox sweep a day-night pair from Baltimore, winning 3–0 and 7–3. Ike Delock shuts out the Orioles, giving the Red Sox their 3rd shutout in a row. Gene Conley and Bill Monbouquette had previously whitewashed the Indians. Whitey Herzog's home run in the 6th of game two ends the Sox sting of 32 2/3 scoreless innings.

» June 1, 1963: The Boston Red Sox release pitcher Ike Delock and recall pitcher Wilbur Wood from Seattle.
