IN THE NEWS: Anaheim 1B Mo Vaughn undergoes surgery to repair a ruptured biceps tendon in his left arm. Mo will miss the entire 2001 season.

Thursday, February 8th

IN THE NEWS: The Dominican Republic defeats Mexico, 5-3, to take its fourth Caribbean Series title in five years.

Sunday, February 11th

IN THE NEWS: Phillies P Robert Person is arrested on charges of obstructing or opposing an officer without violence, and giving a false name, after failing to walk away from a fight when ordered.

Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium, the home of the Pirates since 1970, is imploded before thousands of onlookers. The team will play in new PNC Park this year.

Wednesday, February 14th

IN THE NEWS: Major league baseball announces that umpires have been instructed to eject pitchers who throw deliberately at hitters, and not to give them a warning first.

Thursday, February 15th

IN THE NEWS: The Padres sign free agent P Bobby Jones to a one contract for $625,000. Jones left the Mets after 7+ seasons, declining a Mets offer of salary arbitration that would have netted him, at worst, $2 or $3 million. Last year Jones, 11–4, made $5.25M.

The Yanks sign Henry Rodriguez, to a one year contract. The agreement was reached a month ago and H-Rod is already listed in the team's spring training program.

IN THE NEWS: Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Jim Rice, and Robin Yount are inducted into Ted Williams' Hitters Hall of Fame in Hernando, Florida.

Tuesday, February 20th

IN THE NEWS: Braves OF Andruw Jones wins a record $8.2 million contract in salary arbitration. The previous record of $7.25 million was set last year by Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera.

Friday, February 23rd

IN THE NEWS: In what is believed to be a first of its kind test, umpire Mike Everitt meets with the Milwaukee Brewers to test out baseball's new strike zone.
