IN THE NEWS: Mariners relief P Kazuhiro Sasaki wins the AL Rookie of the Year award. He is the second-oldest player to ever win rookie honors; only Sam Jethroe, who played in the Negro Leagues before the Braves, was older.

IN THE NEWS: Athletics 1B Jason Giambi wins the AL MVP Award. Giambi hit .333 with 43 homers and 137 RBIs.

IN THE NEWS: Giants 2B Jeff Kent wins the NL MVP Award, just edging out teammate Barry Bonds. Kent hit 334 with 33 homers and 114 RBIs for the NL West champs. Bonds had 49 homers and scored 129 runs.
