Wednesday, March 10th

IN THE NEWS: The Giants hire Sherry Davis as public address announcer at Candlestick Park, making her the first female to hold the position in a major league ballpark.

Sunday, March 14th

IN THE NEWS: The Reds announce that Schottzie 02, the St. Bernard owned by Reds president Marge Schott, is being banned from the field at Riverfront Stadium for the season.

Monday, March 22nd

IN THE NEWS: Cleveland pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews are killed, and Bob Ojeda is seriously injured, when the motorboat in which they are riding strikes a pier on Little Lake Nellie in Florida. Crews and Olin are the first active major leaguers to die since Thurman Munson in 1979.

Saturday, March 27th

IN THE NEWS: The Marlins trade 3B Gary Scott and a player to be named to the Reds in exchange for P Chris Hammond.

The Cubs put 2B Ryne Sandberg (broken hand) and SS Shawon Dunston (lower back rehab) on the DL. The two will miss opening day for the first time in nine years together.

Tuesday, March 30th

IN THE NEWS: The Padres trade OF Darrin Jackson to the Blue Jays in exchange for outfielders Derek Bell and Stoney Briggs.

IN THE NEWS: National League president Bill White announces his resignation, which will take place in March of next year.

The Cardinals trade P Mark Clark and SS Juan Andujar to the Indians in exchange for OF Mark Whiten. Whiten will have his best season for Cards in '93.
