IN THE NEWS: Will Clark goes 4-for-4 with two home runs, including the first NLCS grand slam since 1977, to lead the Giants to a 11–3 win over the Cubs in Game One of the National League playoffs. Clark's six RBI tie Bobby Richardson's single-game post season record set in the 1960 World Series.

Rickey Henderson swipes four bases as Oakland beats Toronto again 6–3.

IN THE NEWS: Robby Thompson's 2-run home run gives the Giants the 5–4 victory in game 3.

Two Rickey Henderson home runs and a Jose Canseco upper deck home run give Oakland a 6–5 win.

Sunday, October 8th

IN THE NEWS: Oakland beats Toronto 4–3 to win the ALCS 4-1 and advance to the World Series for the 2nd straight year. Rickey Henderson, who hit .400 with eight stolen bases, is named series MVP.

Matt Williams snaps a 4–4 tie with a 5th-inning home run, and the Giants hold on to win 5–4.

Monday, October 9th

IN THE NEWS: The Giants win their first National League pennant since 1962 by defeating the Cubs 3–2 in game five of the NLCS. Will Clark bats .650 in the series with eight RBI to win MVP honors.

Friday, October 13th

IN THE NEWS: Bob Quinn resigns as GM of the Yankees to accept the same position with the Cincinnati Reds.

Saturday, October 14th

IN THE NEWS: Dave Stewart shuts out the Giants 5–0 on five hits in Game One of the World Series. He is the first pitcher to start consecutive World Series openers since the Reds Don Gullett in 1975 and '76.

Sunday, October 15th

IN THE NEWS: Terry Steinbach's 3-run home run is the big blow as Oakland wins 5–1.

Tuesday, October 17th

IN THE NEWS: Game Three of the World Series is postponed when an earthquake strikes the San Francisco Bay area a half hour before game time, causing minor damage to Candlestick Park but major damage to the surrounding area. The quake registers 7.1 magnitude, killing 67 people and does $7 billion in damage.

Friday, October 27th

IN THE NEWS: After a 10-day earthquake delay, the rumbling continues as Oakland hits five home runs in a 13–7 win.

Saturday, October 28th

IN THE NEWS: The A's take an 8–0 and beat the Giants 9–6 to complete a 4-game sweep of the World Series, the first World Series sweep since 1976. Oakland's Dave Stewart, who won two games, is named MVP.
