IN THE NEWS: Expecting to lose Rod Carew to free agency, the Twins trade the 7-time batting champion to the Angels for OF Ken Landreaux, 3B Dave Engle, and two pitchers.

The Yankees buy two players from the A's, P Greg Cochrane for $100,000 and C Bruce Robinson for $400,000. It proves to be expensive cups of coffee.

IN THE NEWS: Minor league P Jesse Orosco becomes the "player to be named later," going to the Mets in compensation for P Jerry Koosman, who had been sent to the Twins.
