IN THE NEWS: Steve Carlton caps off a remarkable season with a unanimous National League Cy Young Award.

The Mets trade pitchers Gary Gentry and Danny Frisella to the Braves for 2B Felix Milan and P George Stone, both of whom will contribute significantly to the Mets 1973 pennant.

Former Boston SS Freddy Parent dies at the age of 96. Parent had been the last surviving player from the first modern World Series between Boston and Pittsburgh in 1903.

IN THE NEWS: The White Sox Dick Allen wins the American League MVP Award by an overwhelming margin over Joe Rudi of the A's. Allen led the league in home runs (37), RBI (113), walks (99), and slugging (.603).

Tuesday, November 21st

IN THE NEWS: Boston's Carlton Fisk is the unanimous choice for American League Rookie of the Year, the first time this has happened. The catcher hit 22 home runs and led the AL East with a .293 average. Jon Matlack of the Mets is named the National League Rookie of the Year.

The Cubs trade Bill North to the A's for pitcher Bob Locker.

IN THE NEWS: Johnny Bench wins the National League MVP with 263 votes to 211 for runner-up Billy Williams. It is Bench's 2nd award in three years.

IN THE NEWS: The Yankees acquire veteran Matty Alou from the A's for Rob Gardner and Rich McKinley. It is the 2nd time the Yankees have traded Gardner to the A's for an Alou. Last year it was Felipe Alou.

IN THE NEWS: TSN announces Gold Glove Award winners. Pirate Roberto Clemente wins his 12th straight, and Dodger 1B Wes Parker his 6th in a row. Neither will play in 1973.

IN THE NEWS: In a great trade for New York, the Indians swap 3B Graig Nettles and C Gerry Moses to the Yankees for C John Ellis, IF Jerry Kenney, and outfielders Charlie Spikes and Rusty Torres.

IN THE NEWS: The Dodgers trade OF Frank Robinson, P Bill Singer, and three others to the Angels for P Andy Messersmith and 3B Ken McMullen.
