IN THE NEWS: Sandy Koufax becomes the first 3-time winner of the Cy Young Award. He is a unanimous winner for the 2nd-straight year. This is the last year that only one award is given for pitchers in both of the MLs.

Friday, November 4th

IN THE NEWS: Maury Wills leaves the Los Angeles club touring Japan, complaining that his injured right knee needs immediate treatment in the U.S. On December 1, the Dodgers will send Maury to Pittsburgh.

Tuesday, November 8th

IN THE NEWS: Frank Robinson of the Orioles is the unanimous choice as American League MVP. He is the first player to win the award in both leagues. Teammates Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell follow in the voting.

Saturday, November 12th

IN THE NEWS: The Dodgers complete an 18-game tour of Japan with a 9-8-1 record, the most losses ever for a ML club touring the Far East.

Monday, November 14th

IN THE NEWS: George Weiss resigns as Mets president and is succeeded by Bing Devine.

Wednesday, November 16th

IN THE NEWS: Pirate OF Roberto Clemente is named MVP in the National League. He edges Sandy Koufax by 10 votes.

IN THE NEWS: Sandy Koufax announces his retirement, due to increasing pain in his arthritic left elbow.

IN THE NEWS: Chicago OF Tommie Agee is voted American League Rookie of the Year, gathering 16 of the 18 votes. Kansas City P Jim Nash gets the other 2. Agee had been brought up briefly the past four seasons before finding a permanent spot this year.

Friday, November 25th

IN THE NEWS: Cincinnati IF Tommy Helms is voted National League Rookie of the Year.

Monday, November 28th

IN THE NEWS: The Pirates purchase P Juan Pizarro from the White Sox, completing a deal that sends P Wilbur Wood to Chicago. The knuckleballing Wood was 14–8 for Columbus in 1966 after going 1–3 for the Pirates over the previous two years.

Tuesday, November 29th

IN THE NEWS: The Mets trade 2B Ron Hunt and OF Jim Hickman to the Dodgers for 2-time batting champ Tommy Davis and OF Derrell Griffith.

The Yankees trade 3B Clete Boyer to the Braves for OF Bill Robinson and 39-year-old P Chi Chi Olivo.

A circuit court jury in Chicago awards Jim Brewer $100,000 in damages stemming from his 1960 on-field fight with Billy Martin.
