Friday, March 3rd

IN THE NEWS: Frank Robinson is indicted in Cincinnati for carrying a concealed weapon. He was arrested on February 8th when he was discovered to be carrying a .25 caliber pistol. The discovery occurred after an incident in a restaurant where Robinson was eating with two friends. He was fined $250 for it.

Tuesday, March 14th

IN THE NEWS: George Weiss is lured from retirement to become president of the New York Mets.

Friday, March 24th

IN THE NEWS: The New York State Senate approves $55 million for a new baseball stadium at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens.

In Mesa, LF Orlando Cepeda gives the Cubs two runs then hits a 3-run home run as the Giants shave the Cubs, 13–12.

Monday, March 27th

IN THE NEWS: In a spring training game Cardinals P Larry Jackson suffers a broken jaw when hit by a fragment of Dodger Duke Snider's broken bat. Jackson will be sidelined four weeks.

Wednesday, March 29th

IN THE NEWS: Powel Crosley's will directs the Reds to stay in Cincinnati and be run under nonprofit ownership. The late Crosley's daughter and husband, Stanley Kess, will head the foundation.

Friday, March 31st

IN THE NEWS: A Pacific Coast League proposal to use a designated batter for the pitcher is voted down 8-1 by the Professional Baseball Rules Committee. The committee also rules that every club must designate a manager within 30 minutes of game time, a move prompted by the Cubs' college of coaches.

The Milwaukee Braves send infielders Andre Rodgers and Daryl Robertson to the Cubs for pitchers Moe Drabowsky and Seth Morehead.
