IN THE NEWS: "Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks wins his 2nd MVP award in a row on the strength of his 45 home runs and 143 RBI. Eddie Mathews finishes 2nd.

IN THE NEWS: The White Sox 2B Nellie Fox wins the American League's MVP award. Teammates Luis Aparicio and Early Wynn finish 2nd and 3rd in the voting.

Tuesday, November 17th

IN THE NEWS: William Shea of the Continental League shows sketches of the proposed stadium in New York City with its transparent retractable roof.

Giants slugger Willie McCovey is the National League Rookie of the Year. McCovey gets all 24 votes to make him the 2nd Giant in a row to win the award unanimously.

Wednesday, November 18th

IN THE NEWS: OF Bob Allison of Washington is voted the American League Rookie of the Year. Cleveland's Jim Perry is a distant 2nd.

Kansas City announces that Bob Elliott will be its new manager, replacing the often-ill Harry Craft, who was released at the end of the season.

Saturday, November 21st

IN THE NEWS: In the first inter-league trade, the Cubs send 1B Jim Marshall and P Dave Hillman to the Red Sox for 1B Dick Gernert.

Monday, November 30th

IN THE NEWS: The Orioles trade Billy Loes and Billy O'Dell to the Giants for P Gordon Jones, OF Jackie Brandt, and C Roger McCardell. O'Dell will win 56 games for the Giants.

The Cards send popular SS Don Blasingame to the Giants for infielder Darryl Spencer and Leon Wagner.
