IN THE NEWS: Zack Wheat, Dodger favorite of the teens and twenties, is unanimously elected to the Hall of Fame by the 11-member veterans committee.

Saturday, February 7th

IN THE NEWS: White Sox President Mrs. Dorothy Rigney agrees to sell the team to Bill Veeck for a reported $2.7 million. Chicago insurance broker Charles O. Finley allows that he can match the price. Charles Comiskey will try and stop Veeck from buying the Sox but will be unsuccessful.

Monday, February 9th

IN THE NEWS: Frank D. Lawrence, owner of the Portsmouth, VA, club, files a $250,000 suit against Commissioner Ford Frick and ML baseball for breach of contract, alleging that broadcasts of ML games effectively forced him out of business.

Saturday, February 14th

IN THE NEWS: The Orioles purchase veteran 1B Whitey Lockman from the San Francisco Giants, then trade him to the Reds in June for 1B Walt Dropo.

Tuesday, February 17th

IN THE NEWS: The Yankees invite Australian cricket player Norman O'Neill for a tryout at SS. U.S. Davis Cup captain Billy Talbert, while playing tennis in Australia, arranges the deal after hearing of O'Neill's prowess.
