IN THE NEWS: The American League announces that Kansas City will play 52 night games in 1959, a new league mark.

Wednesday, November 12th

IN THE NEWS: The Yankees Bob Turley wins the Cy Young Award, gathering five votes to four for last year's winner, Warren Spahn.

Thursday, November 13th

IN THE NEWS: Mayor Robert Wagner of New York announces preliminary plans for a 3rd ML. Chairman William Shea, of what will become the Continental League, says it is apparent that the National League is going to ignore New York City. He implies that the new league will be free to raid ML rosters.

Tuesday, November 18th

IN THE NEWS: In a power struggle that has been brewing for some time within the Cleveland Indians organization, minority stockholders, led by Hank Greenberg, sell their stock to the majority stockholder, Chairman William Delay, who controls about 34 percent of the stock. Greenberg had proposed to Daley that he either buy Greenberg's group stock or sell his stock to the group.

Red Schoendienst of the Braves is diagnosed as having tuberculosis. He'll miss the entire 1959 season, compiling just three at bats.

IN THE NEWS: The Tigers trade Billy Martin and RHP Al Cicotte to Cleveland for relief P Ray Narleski and Don Mossi and SS Ossie Alvarez.

IN THE NEWS: The BBWAA names Chicago Cubs slugger Ernie Banks the 1958 MVP. Willie Mays is the runner-up.

IN THE NEWS: The American League MVP is Boston slugger Jackie Jensen, winning over New York's Bob Turley and Cleveland's Rocky Colavito.
