IN THE NEWS: Whitey Ford wins 3-1 over Warren Spahn in Game 1 of the Series at Yankee Stadium.

NL President Warren Giles says that the 1958 schedule has no provision in it for a New York team.

Thursday, October 3rd

IN THE NEWS: In Game 2 Lew Burdette defeats Yankee Bobby Shantz 4-2.

Saturday, October 5th

IN THE NEWS: The Yankees score 5 in the 7th to cap a 12-3 win, as Don Larsen, in relief of Bob Turley, defeats Bob Buhl. Tony Kubek of the Yankees becomes only the 2nd rookie in WS history to hit 2 HRs in a WS game.

Sunday, October 6th

IN THE NEWS: With the score tied at 5-5, Eddie Mathews of the Braves evens the WS at 2 games with a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 10th. In the WS first famous "shoeblack incident," pinch hitter Nippy Jones convinces umpire Augie Donatelli that Tommy Byrne's pitch-hit him on the foot.

Monday, October 7th

IN THE NEWS: Lew Burdette wins his 2nd against New York--a brilliant 1-0 shutout--to give Milwaukee a 3-2 Series lead.

The Los Angeles City Council approves the Chavez Ravine site for Dodger Stadium by a vote of 10 to 4.

Tuesday, October 8th

IN THE NEWS: The Yankees stay alive as Hank Bauer homers off the foul pole in LF to give the Yankees a 3-2 win behind the 4-hit pitching of Bob Turley. The WS is even at 3 apiece.

Wednesday, October 9th

IN THE NEWS: With Warren Spahn stricken by the flu, Lew Burdette pitches with 2 days rest, achieves his 3rd complete game and 2nd shutout to beat New York 5-0 The Braves win their first WS championship since the "Miracle Braves" of 1914 beat Connie Mack's Athletics.

IN THE NEWS: The Giants trade their Minneapolis franchise to the Red Sox for the San Francisco Seals--franchises only, not the players.

Wednesday, October 16th

IN THE NEWS: Bill Rigney signs a 2-year deal to manage the San Francisco Giants.

Monday, October 21st

IN THE NEWS: The Giants purchase the Class A Phoenix team and will convince the PCL to accept the city as a location for the Seals.

The Senators reject the initial overtures of Minneapolis and St. Paul to move the team there.
