in the first game of the WS.

Rain delays Game 2 of the WS.

The Dodgers come back from a 6-0 deficit
in Game 2 to win 13-8 behind the sterling relief
pitching of Don Bessent. Yankee C Yogi Berra becomes
the only player in WS history to hit a grand slam
in a losing cause as he sends one over the RF screen
off Don Newcombe in the 2nd.
Owner Clark Griffith of the Senators says
the club is considering moving to the West Coast because
of the delay in building a new Washington stadium.
IN THE NEWS:
The Yanks regroup at home and defeat Brooklyn 5-3
in Game 3, with Whitey Ford going the distance and
Enos Slaughter hitting a 3-run HR.

In Game 4, the Yanks even the WS at 2 apiece with
a 6-2 win in Yankee Stadium. Righty Tom Sturdivant
holds Brooklyn to 6 hits.

Series history is made by Don Larsen of the Yankees,
who pitches a perfect game to defeat the Dodgers 2-0
in Game 5. He requires only 97 pitches. Sal Maglie
matches him until Mickey Mantle homers in the 4th.

The Dodgers bounce back. Clem Labine comes out of
the bullpen to pitch a 1-0 victory in 10 innings.
Enos Slaughter misjudges Jackie Robinson's fly
ball, and Jim Gilliam scores from 2B.

3 years as Johnny Kucks sets down the Bums 9-0.
Yogi Berra hits a pair of 2-run HRs and Bill Skowron
hits a grand slam. Don Newcombe takes the loss, his

The Brooklyn Dodgers begin an exhibition tour of Japan.

Playing below par after their 7-game WS loss to the
Yankees, the Dodgers lose the first game of an
exhibition series in Japan to the Yomiuri Giants 5-4.
Nonetheless, the Dodgers will win 14, lose 4, and
tie one in the series.

The AP names Cincinnati manager Birdie Tebbetts as
its NL Manager of the Year.

White Sox manager Marty Marion resigns. AL Lopez is
the new manager.
