IN THE NEWS: Cincinnati slugger Frank Robinson is unanimously voted the National League Rookie of the Year. White Sox SS Luis Aparicio is voted American League Rookie of the Year with 22 points, beating out Oriole Tito Francona and Indian Rocky Colavito.

In front of an estimated 100,000 at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds, a U.S. Army team beats an Australian all-star team 11–5 in an Olympic exhibition game. Sergeant Vance Sutton hits a grand slam.

Monday, December 3rd

IN THE NEWS: The Tigers send pitchers Ned Garver, Gene Host, and Virgil Trucks, 1B Wayne Belardi and $20,000 to the Athletics for pitchers Bill Harrington, Jack Crimian, 1B Eddie Robinson, and 3B Jim Finigan.

Monday, December 10th

IN THE NEWS: The American League club owners vote for a 3-game playoff in case of a tie at the end of the regular season.

The Cubs buy perennial backup C Charlie Silvera from the Yankees. They also trade pitchers Sad Sam Jones and Jim Davis, IF Eddie Miksis, and C Hobie Landrith to the Cardinals for pitchers Tom Poholsky and Jackie Collum, C Ray Katt, and a minor league pitcher.

Mrs. Grace Comiskey, president of the White Sox, dies of a heart attack in Washington.

IN THE NEWS: A players organization is established with Bob Feller as president.

The Major Leagues vote at a joint meeting to reduce player limits to 28 by Opening Day.

Thursday, December 13th

IN THE NEWS: The Dodgers trade Jackie Robinson to the Giants for P Dick Littlefield and $35,000. Robinson retires rather than accept the trade.
